Subtractive Space - Mutek Mexico 2022

In 2002 myself, Matt Eckensweiler and Karl Skene were invited to create an installation for the Mutex Mexico Festival in mutex in Mexico City.

I've collaborated with Matt and Carl for over 14 years on various stage design and installation projects. We wanted to challenge ourselves to create a piece that would incorporate all of our unique skill sets.

The final resulting work combines touch designer Cinema 4D and blender which are feeding into a single projector as well as a laser that have been precisely aligned and projection mapped onto a large wooden cuboid shape. Karl is the pioneer of pushing the accuracy and technique of laser mapping using Touch Designer.

It was exciting to discover a new way to combine a pre-rendered scene from C4D with the real-time laser mapping. This allowed us to have the laser interact with a abstract glass shape with augmented simulated lighting in the render.

Additionally I composed a minimalistic score two company the piece it created a coming atmosphere which invited guests to not just view the work standing but sit down and enjoy themselves and meditate as they enjoyed the looping and evolving visuals.

We’re continuing the research and development with this pipeline and are looking for opportunities to present it again.

Transformation - Nuit Blanche 2019

A Rallying Cry For The Planet

Link to website

Transformation is an interactive art installation designed to highlight the challenges and opportunities of the climate crisis, and how MaRS-supported ventures are leading the way to a more sustainable future. Housed in the soaring MaRS atrium and exhibited during Nuit Blanche, the largest contemporary art festival in North America, Transformation is a rallying cry for our planet.

Inviting visitors to wade through a 3D-projected river, stare upwards at a blazing sun, stroll through a 21st-century Eden and listen to special contributions from author Margaret Atwood and Grammy-Award-winning producer Daniel Lanois, Transformation was a sobering look at today’s greatest environmental threats, and a hopeful vision of a sustainable future.

An Installation and ongoing research colaboration with Musician and Artist Jeff Acote. Commissioned by Sajneet Takhar of the Music Gallery in Toronto, this large custom acrylic water tank with two marine speakers built into it’s sides. The soundwaves manipulate the water surface bending and refracting the light from a 4k laser projector.
